How to Search for a Lavaca County Warrant
A Lavaca County warrant search is a sequence of court checks, not one countywide form. A city traffic citation usually belongs to that municipal court. A county-road citation is handled by the JP precinct where it was issued. District criminal files go to the District Clerk, and County Court misdemeanor files go to the County Clerk. The Sheriff is the county law-enforcement contact, but its page does not publish a searchable warrant list.
Gather your full name, date of birth, cause or citation number, and the court or town shown on the notice. If you do not know the court, call the office named on the ticket first. Ask whether the record is active, recalled, served, or a capias pro fine, and what action the court requires. A search result is a lead to confirm, not a substitute for counsel.
- Start at the issuing municipal court or JP clerk for a traffic or Class C citation. Use the court printed on the citation, not the closest office.
- For a County Court case, contact the County Clerk at 361-798-3612. For district criminal files, contact the District Clerk at 361-798-2351.
- Call the Sheriff at 361-798-2121 for county law-enforcement routing. The general number is not identified as a dedicated warrant line.
- If phone routing is not enough, submit a written records request. The Sheriff requires state-issued ID and accepts requests by email, mail, or in person.
- Check OmniBase only for reported FTA/FTP matters, then confirm status with the reporting court. Ask counsel about a warrant before appearing.
Lavaca County Sheriff Warrant Route
The Lavaca County Sheriff’s official page lists the office, jail, inmate-search link, and public-records fee chart. It does not expose a warrant name field, warrant number search, or active-list update schedule. Call 361-798-2121 and ask which court holds the process and whether the Sheriff can confirm current county status.
For a written request, the county lists LCSOpublicrequest@co.lavaca.tx.us and mail to the Records Unit, P.O. Box 373, Hallettsville, TX 77964. Bring or attach a valid state driver license or ID. The fee chart allows money order or cashier’s check for charges, but it does not list a certified warrant-copy fee. Ask for a cost estimate first.
That distinction keeps a Sheriff records request separate from a court-file request.
Lavaca County Warrant Search Fields
Hallettsville and Yoakum publish citation portals, not full county warrant indexes. Their forms match a case using a citation, driver-license details, vehicle, name, or business name. Use a date of birth when the official form offers it, and enter personal data only in the court’s own form.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Citation / case number | Text | Optional route | Hallettsville and Yoakum accept citation identifiers; Shiner JP 3 accepts citation/ticket or case/cause numbers. |
| Name and birth date | Text/date | Portal-dependent | Hallettsville and Yoakum offer first/last name with DOB; use your own case details. |
| Driver license | Text plus state | Portal-dependent | Both city portals expose DL and state; date of birth can further narrow a match. |
| Vehicle plate | Text plus state | Portal-dependent | Hallettsville and Yoakum show plate and vehicle-state routes. |
| Business name | Text | Portal-dependent | Both Tyler forms show a business search option; it does not cover every warrant type. |
| Search type | Select / tabs | Yes for JP 3 | Shiner JP 3 asks users to choose Citation/Ticket Number or Case/Cause Number. |
Lavaca County Warrant Citation Portals
Hallettsville’s Tyler page exposes six match routes: citation plus DOB, driver license plus state and DOB, Social Security number plus DOB, plate plus state, first and last name plus DOB, and business name. Its search control is public, but the form is for its municipal docket. A result does not establish that no JP or county-level warrant exists.
Yoakum’s Tyler page offers citation, driver-license, plate, name, and business searches. A separate TrafficPayment page asks for name, license, ticket or case number, amount, and a one-time passcode. It is a payment interface. The court tells users to confirm the correct court and amount at 361-293-6321 before paying.
Neither portal advertises one search that spans all Lavaca courts.
What a Warrant Search Returns
Lavaca does not publish a countywide sample warrant record or number pattern. When a clerk confirms a match, ask for the underlying case number, issuing court, reason for process, current status, bond or fine amount, and the office that can update it. A ticket search can display a citation without showing the warrant’s full status.
| Case identifier | Use your citation or cause number; no countywide warrant-number format is published. |
|---|---|
| Charge / reason | Offense, missed appearance, or post-judgment court order at issue. |
| Issuing court | Municipal Court, JP precinct, County Court, or District Court. |
| Bond / amount | Ask the issuing clerk for the current figure and accepted payment or bond type. |
| Status | Active, served, recalled, or another court-entered status. Confirm after any payment. |
Confirm Lavaca County Warrant Search Hits
A name can match the wrong person, and a citation portal may show an open case without showing whether a separate arrest warrant remains active. Ask the clerk to read back the court, citation or cause number, and status. If the record is recalled, ask when the court’s list and any reporting system will reflect that change.
Do not treat a missing result as proof of no warrant. A JP matter may be absent from a city portal, a municipal warrant may be absent from a county list, and Moulton’s weekly list may lag a recall or bond posting.
Where Lavaca County Warrants Are Checked
District criminal files route to the District Clerk at the courthouse, while County Court criminal misdemeanors route to the County Clerk at the annex. JP clerks keep precinct traffic and Class C dockets. Hallettsville, Moulton, Shiner, and Yoakum municipal courts keep city citation and ordinance records.
Call the Sheriff at 361-798-2121 for county-level law-enforcement routing. Its jail line is 361-798-2420. Neither number is published as a dedicated warrant desk. The County Justice page marks JP 2 temporarily closed; verify the redirected route before sending payment or traveling.
The County Clerk office page lists its location and records channels.
The clerk keeps County Court records, not the district criminal file.
The District Clerk page provides the separate courthouse route for district criminal matters.
Ask that office about a district cause number and any available criminal-file access.
Lavaca County JP Warrant Route Changes
The county’s JP directory says Precinct 2 is temporarily closed and directs citation and civil questions to Precincts 1, 3, and 4. It says all payments are accepted at JP 1. Do not assume that a mailed notice or online listing has kept an old office route current.
JP 1 is at 38 FM 318 in Hallettsville, JP 3 at 116 W. 6th Street in Shiner, and JP 4 at 113 Nelson Street in Yoakum. Call the precinct shown on the case or the county page to confirm where the file moved. The constable directory describes service contacts; it is not a warrant database.
The county’s Justice directory shows the four precinct court contacts.
Use the directory to check the precinct office that currently handles the case.
The county lists precinct officers and contact details separately from the court records.
Ask the issuing JP clerk who can confirm a recall or updated payment record.
Access and Restricted Warrants
The Texas Public Information Act does not turn every judicial or law-enforcement file into a public search result. Lavaca’s open-records instructions direct court records to the court clerk. Sealed material, juvenile records, and some investigation information may be restricted. A custodian can explain the route and any legal basis for withholding.
Key Rules:
Texas Government Code Chapter 552 permits exceptions to public disclosure; ask the office to identify the basis for a denial.
Texas Family Code Chapter 58 limits access to juvenile records and related warrant material.
A sealed or unserved record may not appear online. A blank search result does not prove there is no warrant.
Lavaca County Warrant Checks and OmniBase
Texas DPS describes a program for qualifying failure-to-appear and failure-to-pay matters reported by participating courts. It can affect license renewal, but it is not a live warrant search and does not include every jurisdiction. DPS license specialists cannot see a person’s warrant status.
Contact the court that reported the citation to confirm the amount, compliance step, and date it will report clearance. The DPS program page and OmniBase individual page describe the hold and limits. For a court-record question, follow the county’s own open-records routing sheet.
