Traffic Warrants in Lavaca County
Lavaca traffic matters split between municipal courts and JP precinct courts. A citation usually requires a plea, payment, course request, deferred-disposition request, or appearance by the date printed on it. A missed response can lead the issuing court to start an arrest warrant, capias, or capias pro fine process depending on the case stage.
Moulton’s FAQ describes a ten-day courtesy FTA notice after the appearance date. Yoakum’s court page says a failure to appear can add a warrant, fine, warrant fee, court cost, and a TxDPS reporting charge. Hallettsville says a phone call does not count as an appearance. These are local procedures, so confirm the rule with the court on your ticket.
Lavaca County Traffic Warrant Courts
Hallettsville, Moulton, Shiner, and Yoakum each have a municipal court for city matters. County-road traffic cases go to JP 1, JP 2, JP 3, or JP 4 according to the precinct. The court name on the ticket is the quickest way to avoid sending a plea or payment to the wrong office.
The county’s Justice page says JP 2 is temporarily closed and directs citation questions to the other precincts. It accepts payments at JP 1. For Shiner JP 3, the nCourt portal lets a user select citation/ticket number or case/cause number. These are citation routes, not a driving-history file.
How to Check for a Lavaca County Traffic Warrant
Start with the issuing court’s search or clerk. Hallettsville and Yoakum expose citation portals; Shiner JP 3 accepts citation or case numbers; Moulton links a weekly warrant list. If no online result answers the warrant question, call the court, ask the Sheriff for county-level routing, or send a written request to the office that holds the file.
- Read the court name and case number from your ticket. For a city citation, open the matching municipal-court page; for a county-road case, use the correct JP precinct.
- Search with citation plus DOB, license and state, plate and state, or name plus DOB if the portal offers that route. Shiner JP 3 uses citation/ticket or case/cause number only.
- Call the clerk if the result is missing or does not show warrant status. Moulton’s list is weekly and may lag; call 361-596-4621 to confirm.
- For a county-level enforcement question, call the Sheriff at 361-798-2121. Its written request route is LCSOpublicrequest@co.lavaca.tx.us and requires state-issued ID.
- Ask the issuing court whether payment, a plea, an appearance, or bond recalls the warrant. Save proof and confirm the court updated any separate FTA report.
Lavaca County Traffic Warrant Portal Fields
Hallettsville’s Tyler search offers citation and DOB, driver license and state with DOB, Social Security number and DOB, plate and state, first and last name with DOB, and business name. Yoakum’s form offers citation, license, plate, name, and business routes. Yoakum’s payment vendor asks for the defendant’s name, license details, case number, amount, and one-time passcode. Call 361-293-6321 before paying through that separate form.
Shiner JP 3 says to include any letter suffix, try removing a leading zero if the number fails, and wait five days after the citation before using online payment. Those instructions apply to that JP portal, not to Shiner Municipal Court.
What a Traffic Warrant Shows
There is no countywide traffic-warrant sample record or standard number format. Ask the court to identify the underlying citation, issuing court, current balance, whether a warrant is active, and whether a hold was separately reported. Do not mistake a payment screen or a case lookup for a confirmed warrant status.
| Citation / cause | Use the number on the ticket; no local traffic-warrant code pattern was published. |
|---|---|
| Charge / reason | Traffic offense, missed appearance, unpaid judgment, or court-order default. |
| Issuing court | Municipal court for city tickets; the proper JP for county-road citations. |
| Amount / bond | Ask that court for the exact total and accepted method; do not use another city’s fee. |
| Status | Active, recalled, paid, or another court-entered status. Confirm after processing. |
Lavaca County Traffic Warrant Citation Format
The Shiner JP 3 portal has a narrow case-number search. Select Citation/Ticket Number or Case/Cause Number, enter the identifier, and continue through the record-search and payment flow. The page says a citation may need its letter suffix. If a leading zero causes a failed search, try the number without it.
Wait five days after receiving the ticket before attempting online payment. The phone-payment number is 361-298-1157. These instructions belong to JP 3; a Shiner city-police ticket starts with the separate Municipal Court at 361-594-3362.
Paying or Lifting a Traffic Warrant
Obtain the exact court total and ask whether payment is a plea, satisfaction of a capias pro fine, or a bond that restores a hearing. Before the appearance date, use the court’s plea, payment, deferred-disposition, or course form if eligible. With an active warrant, ask whether payment alone recalls it or whether an appearance or bond is required.
- Ask the clerk for current warrant status, full balance, and the action that will recall the process.
- Use only the payment route for that court. Hallettsville’s reply form requires a plea and citation copy for mailed payment; Moulton requires a written plea by mail.
- If contesting, ask about a court date and cash or appearance bond. Yoakum’s payment page says to confirm the amount before using a vendor.
- Keep receipts and written confirmation. Call the court afterward to check recall and ask whether it reported clearance to DPS.
Warning: A payment receipt does not by itself prove recall; ask the issuing court to confirm the warrant and any separate FTA report were updated.
Lavaca County Traffic Warrants and OmniBase
Texas DPS’s FTA/FTP program can block license renewal after a participating court reports an unpaid citation or missed appearance. That hold is not the warrant itself. DPS says its license specialists cannot see warrant information, and OmniBase includes only participating jurisdictions. Contact the court for the case and the program for reported compliance status.
The statewide statute allows a $10 reimbursement fee per reported complaint or citation subject to exceptions. Yoakum separately states a $30 processing charge for reporting an FTA to TxDPS. Do not combine those figures or assume either applies to another court. Ask the clerk to calculate the current amount.
The official program help explains what a Texas FTA/FTP hold does and does not cover.
OmniBase should be checked separately from the issuing court’s warrant record.
Traffic Warrant vs FTA and License Holds
One citation can produce a court warrant, a separate FTA or capias step, and a state renewal hold. The court controls the first two; the reporting program tracks qualifying compliance notices. Paying one amount may not update every system on the same day.
| Mechanism | What Triggers It | What It Does |
|---|---|---|
| Traffic warrant | Missed response or court date under local procedure | Authorizes arrest as ordered by the issuing court |
| FTA / capias | Failure to appear or comply with a court setting or judgment | Creates additional court process or a post-judgment collection step |
| OmniBase hold | Qualifying FTA/FTP report from a participating court | Can block Texas license renewal until the court reports compliance |
Lavaca County Chapter 18 Warrant Rules
A traffic warrant concerns a citation and court response. A Texas Chapter 18 search warrant authorizes officers to search for specified property or evidence after a probable-cause affidavit. Its public-access and sealing rules are different from a JP or municipal traffic docket.
The distinction helps when a clerk or portal uses the word “warrant” without describing the type. Ask whether the record is an arrest warrant on a citation, a capias pro fine, or a search warrant issued in a criminal investigation.
The state’s Chapter 18 page explains search-warrant rules, including public access after execution and sealing limits.
Chapter 18 material is not a substitute for checking the court named on a traffic citation.
