Municipal Court Warrants in Lavaca County
Hallettsville, Moulton, Shiner, and Yoakum each have a municipal court. These courts handle city ordinance and traffic matters and can issue arrest-warrant or failure-to-appear process in their cases. A capias pro fine may follow a judgment default. The record stays with the court that issued it.
Lavaca County has no public Sheriff warrant search that combines the cities. City police may serve city process, but the city court controls citation status, pleas, payments, and recall. A blank county-level result therefore cannot clear a municipal case.
Lavaca County Municipal Warrant Routing
A municipal warrant can be served by city police and still remain a court record. Hallettsville’s Standing Order No. 4 says the clerk sends activated warrant information to the police, while its court keeps the case and handles appearance or recall. The county Sheriff page does not say every city list is copied into one county roster.
For the warrant question, contact the issuing clerk. For an arrest or police-record request, use the city agency that maintains that record. This division is why a reader should not substitute a county Sheriff call for a city court status check.
Which Cities Have Municipal Courts
Four incorporated cities have municipal courts in the county. Unincorporated traffic and Class C matters go to the JP precinct shown on the citation. The office phone is the practical way to confirm city-court hours and the current case route.
| City | Municipal court | Typical matters | Phone |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hallettsville | Hallettsville Municipal Court | City traffic, ordinance, and Class C; arrest warrant and capias pro fine | 361-798-3681 |
| Moulton | Moulton Municipal Court | City traffic and ordinance; weekly warrant list | 361-596-4621 |
| Shiner | Shiner Municipal Court | City traffic and ordinance; call for status | 361-594-3362 |
| Yoakum | Yoakum Municipal Court | City Class C and traffic; magistrate may issue warrants | 361-293-6321 |
Official Census place data confirms the four incorporated cities listed here; population is context, not a measure of warrant volume.
The court contacts and procedures below remain city-specific despite the shared county setting.
Lavaca County Municipal Warrant Portals
Hallettsville’s city-court search accepts citation and DOB, driver license and state with DOB, Social Security number with DOB, plate and state, first and last name with DOB, or business name. Yoakum’s Tyler search offers citation, license, vehicle, name, and business routes. These forms locate city citations; call the clerk to verify whether a warrant remains active.
Shiner Municipal Court has no general city warrant portal located, so use its directory number, 361-594-3362. Shiner JP 3’s nCourt search is a separate county-court route for citation or case numbers. Do not mistake the JP portal for Shiner Municipal Court’s warrant status.
How to Check a Municipal Court Warrant
Use the online city citation search when one exists, then call the municipal clerk with the citation number and date of birth. Hallettsville’s reply form says a telephone call does not constitute an appearance. If the portal is blank, the clerk can check the case file and explain whether a warrant, capias, or court date is recorded.
- For Hallettsville or Yoakum, open the official Tyler citation search linked from the city court page.
- Search by citation and DOB, license, plate, name and DOB, or business where the court form offers that route.
- For Moulton, use the official weekly warrant-list link and call the court to confirm any entry or missing result.
- For Shiner, call Municipal Court at 361-594-3362; do not use JP 3’s portal for a city-police citation.
- Ask the clerk what resolves the case, whether appearance or bond is required, and how the court confirms recall.
Lavaca County Hallettsville Warrant Stages
Standing Order No. 4 distinguishes a missed initial setting from a later failure to follow a judgment. After required notice, the clerk processes an arrest warrant for judge review. If notice was not received before disposition, the clerk resets an uncontested docket at least 30 days out and gives notice. After judgment and a prior show-cause setting, noncompliance can lead to capias-pro-fine review.
The order also says an appearance as defined there recalls active arrest, capias, or capias-pro-fine process. Ask the clerk what qualifies as an appearance in the specific case and when any OmniBase or Non-Resident Violator Compact hold will be updated.
That search helps locate a city case; it is not a countywide warrant database.
What a Lavaca Municipal Warrant Shows
No local source publishes a common municipal-warrant schema. Ask for the citation or cause number, charge, court, warrant type, current amount, and status. Moulton’s page warns that a weekly list can remain posted after recall or bail, so call the court to reconcile any display with the case file.
| Citation / cause | Use the citation on the court paper; no standard city-warrant number pattern was found. |
|---|---|
| Charge / reason | City traffic, ordinance, Class C, missed appearance, or judgment default. |
| Issuing court | The municipal court for the city named on the citation. |
| Bond / fine | Get the exact current total from that city’s clerk. |
| Status | Active, recalled, served, paid, or another court-entered status; confirm after action. |
Moulton’s Lavaca County Warrant List
Moulton says its official municipal warrant listing is updated weekly, not daily. It may continue to show a warrant after recall or bail. The court’s page describes several triggers and links the official list, but it does not show a name-search form in the captured text.
Call 361-596-4621 before paying or appearing. Moulton’s judge also holds a walk-in docket on the second and fourth Friday of each month, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Confirm the schedule and whether your case can be handled there.
Resolving a Lavaca Municipal Warrant
Each city court gives its own response path. Hallettsville’s reply form permits guilty, no-contest, or not-guilty responses and requires a citation copy and cashier’s check or money order for mailed payment. Moulton accepts an online credit-card payment through CertifiedPayments, mailed payment with a written plea, or payment in person. Yoakum lists payment at City Hall but warns that online availability can differ across linked pages.
- Confirm the issuing city court, warrant status, and exact amount before sending payment.
- Ask whether the court accepts a plea and payment, sets a new date, or requires cash or appearance bond.
- Use only the city’s stated payment route and keep the receipt, plea, and confirmation number.
- Call the clerk after processing to confirm recall and any separate license-report update.
Warning: A city payment page does not prove a warrant is recalled; ask the issuing clerk to confirm status and any remaining appearance duty.
Lavaca County Municipal Warrant Requests
The county open-records handout routes police and arrest records to the agency that maintains them. A request for a city arrest record should go to that city’s police department or records officer. A judicial warrant record belongs to the municipal court clerk. The Sheriff fee chart applies to Sheriff records, not every city court copy.
OmniBase is a separate Texas FTA/FTP reporting system and includes only participating jurisdictions. If a city court says it sent a compliance report, ask when it will report clearance and check with the program separately. For the wider county routes see Lavaca County warrant-list limits.
